The main course meetings will be Tuesdays, 4:00–6:30pm, in Alumnae Hall 212.
The seminar will be run entirely as a discussion. Each week's meeting will be divided into two parts, with each half typically devoted to one chapter. One of you will `introduce' the material by briefly reminding us of the overall point of the chapter and then raising exegetical or critical questions for us to consider.
Weeks you are not `presenting', you should write a short (2–3 page) critical exposition of one of the central arguments from the readings. The main point of this exercise is to practice explaining an argument and defending your interpretation of it. There is no need to criticize or evaluate the argument, though of course you may wish to consider possible objections as you decide between different interpretations.
Note that no `final paper' is required for the course.
There are three books required for the course: Susanna Siegel's The Rationality of Perception, Miranda Fricker's Epistemic Injustice, and Imogen Dickie's Fixing Reference. These will all be provided by the instructor.
You should expect to spend the following amounts of time on activities for this course.
Your total time commitment should thus be approximately 144 hours.
